Helping Out in Our Community

Vision

We will be a model for adult literacy services and play a key role in Waterloo Region achieving the highest literacy rates in Canada.

Mission Statement

The Literacy Group of Waterloo Region is a community based organization that provides accessible literacy training services to empower adults to reach their goals and improve their quality of life.

Values

The staff, students, volunteers and board of The Literacy Group of Waterloo Region are committed to the following values:

Trustworthy

We ensure a trustworthy, confidential environment that is physically and emotionally safe.

Responsibility

We demonstrate accountability, commitment and follow-through for our personal and organizational responsibilities. Two key responsibilities are The Literacy Groups’ fiscal wellbeing and the pursuit of our students’ learning objectives.

Respect

We value and respect each individual’s diverse background. We are accepting, inclusive and accessible to our diverse community and promote the same within our organization.

Compassion

We encourage and care for one another. We listen, understand and respond with compassion and empathy.

Partnering

We achieve our objectives through partnering at all levels internally and externally.

Become A Board Member

We are looking for Board Members who want to help us make a difference in the community.

Members of the Board of Directors attend monthly board meetings held on the last Tuesday of the month in our Kitchener office. They also may serve on committees or help with special events. (approximately 4-8 hours per month). Previous experience with a non-profit, government funded agency and fundraising is an asset.
